When can a massage help?

If you have suffered an injury there is the potential that massage could help. We only work with people when it is safe to do so as there are some injuries which are not compatible with massage.

How can massage help, post-injury?

When you get a massage it stimulates the circulation of blood in the area massaged and throughout the body. This increased blood flow makes it easier for the body to bring in nutrients and everything needed for the body to recover. It also helps accelerate the removal of waste products from the cells.

How soon after an injury should you get a massage?

You should visit your massage therapist after the first 2 days of healing. By using a variety of techniques, motions and pressures, your massage therapist can help to speed up your body’s natural healing process.

When can a massage help?

There are so many different circumstances when a massage could help bring about an improvement physically, mentally and emotionally. You might be a sports person who has pulled a hamstring, a gardener that’s pulled a muscle in their back or an office worker who has a repetitive strain injury, massage can help you on the road to recovery. Find out more.

Benefits of massage for injuries

Promotes healing

This may tie in with stress reduction but people who are more relaxed, generally, get less sick less often than those who don't.

Ease tight muscles

Massage can stimulate blood flow to areas of the body where it might be particularly needed and help you recover from injury.

Increased flexibility

When muscles and tendons are helped to ease off you could find you experience increased flexibility.

Reduces pain

If you suffer with headaches, neck, shoulder or back pain, massage therapy could help to alleviate your symptoms and provide relief.

Improved blood circulation

Massage promotes blood circulation which means many people feel more energetic after a massage.

The body can be helped in recovering from surgery. If you have scars then a massage could help your body be at it's best and speed up the healing process.

I've suffered with sciatica and a stiff achy back and shoulders for many years which was considerably worse during and after my pregnancy. I booked in for a postnatal massage with Fi Hennessy who took time asking me about problematic and sensitive areas, welcomed me to the Sheffield Wellness Centre (amazing place!) and made sure I was comfortable and well looked after.Fi is a remarkable lady who exudes warmth and definitely knows her way around a postnatal body. The relief was incredible, I felt relaxed and peaceful and thoroughly enjoyed being pampered. I had a 1hr session and booked my second appointment before leaving - these sessions have now become part of my self care routine. Fi has a way of making you feel body confident regardless of size or wobbly bits which was inspiring. My mind and body are very thankful for these sessions with Fi 🙂

I had a Post natal Rest and relax massage gifted to me on my baby shower, I have to say it was one of the most amazing massages I’ve ever gotten. I had a lot of mummy guilt leaving my son but honestly feel so much more relaxed which is good for both me and my baby!
